A Scots chef jetted out to Russia to win the stomachs of a nation and he did it with mince!

Robert is the first Westerner to be hired to cook for a Russian airline, but he reckons it will be easy.

“I’ve worked in Russia before on oil installations,” he says, “and the palate there is no different from any other part of the world. They seem to be crazy over mince, which they love in all shapes and forms, whether as mince and tatties, hamburgers, or kebabs. The problem is getting hold of the right quality of meat and other ingredients to produce appetising enough dishes.”

As catering supervisor 150 miles southeast of Moscow, Robert will be in charge of training 40 chefs and catering assistants, and monitoring quality control.

“Some of the staff will never have seen the ingredients they’ll be using, but with the help of an interpreter, I’m hoping it won’t be too difficult to get the message across.”

In recognition of his superchef status, his company are laying on a flat in the heart of the city and a chauffeur to run Robert to and from work. If the move is a success, they hope to extend their food help service to other Soviet airlines.
